* More than 5.4 million youth (ages 16 – 24) are not in school and
do not have a job

* The United States is 17th among developed
nations in terms of the percentage of youth who graduate high school

* 32% of American students never graduate from
high school
|
* Employment for teens is at the lowest level
in 57 years, with as few as 20 percent of black teens employed at
any one time
|
* Only half of all students of color graduate
high school
|
* 65% of all young adults who are incarcerated
did not finish high school
|
* The death rate for persons with less
than 12 years of education is 2.5 times higher than for those with
13 years of education or more
